'First School' Chair

Our records show that this ‘primitive’ school chair was used in the first school in Oamaru. It is made of Kauri and though in original condition, it is clear that is has been stored outside for some time.

A Work in Progress: Forrester Gallery Through the Years explores the various iterations of 9 Thames Street, from the Bank of New South Wales to the present day, as the Forrester Gallery. This exhibition shares behind-the-scenes imagery of previous construction periods, ephemeral objects celebrating its past, Architectural drawings by Robert Lawson, and more.

AEIOU | Te Pū Taka Māori - The Māori Alphabet - Wonderlab

This exhibition has been created specifically for children and families, with hands-on activities to explore the Māori alphabet. Fifteen letters of the Māori alphabet are interpreted through a playful mixture of treasured taoka Māori with artworks from the Forrester Gallery and Te Whare Taoka o Waitaki, Waitaki Museum.
