The Sea

01 Jan 2021 The works in this small exhibition inside the old bank vault are all from the Forrester Gallery collection and all depict the sea near Ōamaru – by the harbour, or just south at Bushey Beach and Cape Wanbrow. Many were created in the late 1800s in the same era as John Masefield’s famous poem Sea Fever, which seems appropriate to the sentiment of these works.

01 Jan 2021 Box of Birds is an artistic response towards Waitaki Museum’s collection of taxidermy specimen boxes. Collaborating together local artists Natalie Carpenter and Tracey Vickers explored ideas using the shared and diverse medium of ink.

This impressive building was built in 1884 for the Bank of New South Wales. Architect Robert Lawson designed this neo-classical style building; making brilliant use of local Ōamaru stone.

Fired Up, 50 Years of Pottery on Tyne

20 Feb 2021 In 1970 a group of Oamaru potters came together and called themselves the North Otago Potters. They moved into a cottage at 44 Tyne Street and became Ceramic 44, now Pottery on Tyne.

10 Apr 2021 Bruce Mahalski is a Dunedin artist, known for his illustration, street murals, and sculpture incorporating animal bones. He is also the founder and curator of the Dunedin Museum of Natural Mystery, a private museum of natural history, ethnographic objects, social history and his own bone sculptures.
