In 2023, Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū commissioned two major new video works from Tāmaki Makaurau-based artists Sione Tuívailala Monū (Aotearoa, Australia, Tonga) and Edith Amituanai (Aotearoa, Sāmoa) for the exhibition Toloa Tales. Later that year, the artists travelled to Sāmoa with cinematographer Ralph Brown to film their projects. The powerful moving image works that resulted touch on themes of migration, identity and belonging, and are relevant to broad audiences.
