Maritza Boutique | Ōamaru - London
During the 1960s and 1970s Ōamaru had a collective of women who were taking on the business world through their creativity, ingenuity and determination. The Maritza Boutique made clothing for the people of Ōamaru for over a decade, keeping the local community up-to-date with the latest fashions and importing wonderful and unique fabric.
This exhibition looks at the Waitaki Museum’s collection of Maritza Boutique garments. We have worked with seven local artists to incorporate contemporary pieces, creating links between our creative past and present. And some local rangatahi – youth have brought these garments to life in a short film that will be showing in the exhibition.
